As the weather warms up, Alexandria offers a variety of events to enjoy. Here are some highlights for the week of May 15–21:
Jeffrey Osborne at The Birchmere
When: Friday, May 15, and Saturday, May 16, at 7:30 p.m.
Where: The Birchmere, 3701 Mt. Vernon Ave.
Renowned R&B singer Jeffrey Osborne will perform two consecutive nights at The Birchmere. Known for hits like “On the Wings of Love,” Osborne’s concerts promise an evening of soulful music. Tickets are available through The Birchmere’s official website.
Civil War Concert at Fort Ward
When: Saturday, May 16, 11 a.m. – Noon
Where: Fort Ward Museum & Historic Site, 4301 West Braddock Rd.
Celebrate Armed Forces Day with a special outdoor concert featuring the 8th Green Machine Regiment Band. This ensemble will perform Civil War-era music on authentic 19th-century instruments. A suggested donation of $2 per person or $5 per family is appreciated. The event is weather-dependent.
Petals for Mama: A Mother’s Day Picnic
When: Saturday, May 16, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Where: Windmill Hill Park, 501 S Union St.
Join the community for a belated Mother’s Day celebration with a picnic at Windmill Hill Park. Enjoy an afternoon of relaxation and family-friendly activities. Admission is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnic setups.
Old Town Festival of Speed & Style
When: Sunday, May 17, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Where: Lower King Street and around Market Square
Experience a showcase of high-performance vehicles and fashion at the seventh annual Old Town Festival of Speed & Style. The event will feature exotic cars, live music, and fashion displays. Road closures will be in effect around the event area, so plan accordingly.
WMAL Free Speech Forum
When: Sunday, May 17, at 7 p.m.
Where: The Birchmere, 3701 Mt. Vernon Ave.
